Australian a cappella Contemporary folk
that will re-ignite your spirit.
Akasa formed in 1998 and has toured extensively
in Australia, playing all major folk and selected world music
events. The group has also had a busy international calender
including tours throughout the South Pacific and New Zealand.
In 2004 on their first New Zealand tour they were
among the headline acts at the Wellington Festival. On their 2006
tour they will be performing throughout New Zealand, including the
Nelson School of Musicıs Winter Festival. In April 2002, Akasa
released the defining album World Citizen which has been highly
acclaimed in Australia and abroad. This follows the award winning
debut release (self titled) which received two international awards
Best World Folk Album and Best World /Folk Song at the Contemporary
A Cappella Recording Awards (USA) in 2000.

Akasa is currently recording their third album
due out this year. Akasa are:
Heidi Bradburn, a gifted
songwriter and soloist. Heidi has has recorded and performed her
original music with Melbourne-based folk-pop group Gladstone Road.
She also performs with the 30's styled gypsy jazz ensemble Blazz.
Diana Clark Highly regarded for
her contribution to community choirs in Australia. Founding member
of Akasa whose extraordinary vocal range, agility and thorough
understanding of the intricacies of improvising within the a
cappella medium contribute to the groupıs sound.
Vicki King Vocalist, pianist,
percussionist, composer and teacher. Vicki's diverse education and
experience have kept her in demand as a singer, teacher and workshop
conductor. She has kept busy teaching in a number of schools
tertiary and community settings, including Wesley College, The
Victorian College of the Arts and the University of Melbourne
Faculty of Music.
Andrea Watson Vocalist,
guitarist, composer and vocal teacher, Andrea has recorded with many
international musicians including Valanga Khoza as Hemisphere, King
Marong as Safara. She has conducted workshops at schools and
festivals around Australia and the Pacific as well as directing the
2002 Woodford Folk Festival Fire Event Choir of 400 voices.
Mesmerising vocal harmonies intertwined with
percussion, create the sound that is Akasa. This passionate female
quartet sings original, rhythmic music a cappella style. Influenced
by the sounds, politics and cultural movements from across the
Southern Hemisphere, Akasa's music is resensitizing, relevant and
empowering.
