"Canny" is an adjective defined as shrewd, agreeable, worldly-wise, thrifty, cautious, quiet, gentle, trustworthy. Hopefully, each of us has some of these qualities. The Canny Folk specialise mainly in traditional songs, and most of the songs tonight are related in some way to the sea.
If you think barbershop quartets are cool, check out the multi-part harmonies and interwoven melodies from four saxophones! This instrumental quartet features soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, playing a mixture of traditional and popular music. You don’t hear music like this everyday!
Standing on the fine line between easy-listening and jazz, Don’t Look Down present a range of well-loved show-tunes and jazz classics, laced with interesting textural solos. Enjoy the sweet mellow tone of clarinet and beautiful vocal harmonies in these all-time, sing-along favourites. Performance in loving memory of former band members Wilf Hale & John Birnie.
Blue Hunter presents a fresh twist to a traditional blues style – hardly surprising when their bass player can usually be found in a heavy-metal garage band, the lead vocalist has recently returned from an 80’s rhythm and blues time warp, the rhythm guitarists hotly debate the nuances of Traditional vs Chicago blues, and the saxophonist would rather be playing Celtic blues anyway. As you can imagine, their sound is uniquely Blue Hunter.
