House Concerts
We are occasionally contacted by musicians travelling to/around New Zealand who would like to perform at our Folk Club but we can't take them. They are usually international performers and the main reason is because we are already booked for the time they are here. In other places, a 'House Concert' is sometimes held for an artist who is passing through. It's easy and informal and tends to work like this....
A date is decided between the host and artist, with the host advertising the concert by contacting friends or people who might be interested. They in turn, contact their friends etc. etc. We can sometimes send a broadcast email to folk club members on your behalf. The host decides the number/size of audience and has control over who comes to their 'House Concert. The host can choose to provide tea, coffee, supper or request the audience to bring their own. There are no set rules. Remind people to bring cushions or fold-up chairs. The audience donates an agreed amount and this, once any expenses are taken out, goes to the performer.
Again, no set rules for size of room or numbers - the bigger the better and the more the merrier! So...why put on a 'House Concert'? It's an opportunity to meet some great people, make new friends and listen to some fabulous live music in your living room, as well as show what a wonderful bunch of people us folkies are!!

NEEDED
Band leader and/or band interested in assembling a Celtic style backup for a comic folk style song to be used in an animated short film. We are applying for a grant, so need expressions of interest, credentials, and a cost estimate at this stage--to include in application. Need to move really quickly on this to meet deadlines! (Script is done, animator has drawn up storyboard and characters, and we are otherwise ready to go.) If interested, or phone 385-7080.
WANTED
A left handed Banjo
Does anyone have any suggestions; know of anyone who has a L.H.B collecting dust in their garage, anything really? The music stores in CHCH don't stock them, and they are super expensive to bring in to NZ. I've never played before, but know I'm definitely a lefty.
Can you help me out, or pass on any phone numbers or e-mail addresses of people who specialize in banjos sales.
I really appreciate your time
Mike Gillies
