Pete Gale describes himself as "a rocker who lost his way" and occasionally as "a blues fiend who doesn't play any". Whatever is the case, Pete is a fine musician who has a voice with lots of character and a good hand on the guitar. He has been involved in playing music all of his adult life, starting with rock 'n roll bands and moving in the last 20 years to acoustic styles.
Pete has recently taken up residence in Nelson after living in England for the previous 12 years. He has been a bit of a traveller for a long time though and has been to various parts of the globe over the years.
Anna Heinz was raised in a musical family in Nelson and has played acoustic and folk music most of her life. She has been involved with folk music clubs as a performer and organiser since 1978. She has performed solo and as a member of the groups "Misconceptions" and "Cairde" over many years too.
Anna is a clear finger style guitarist who has a particularly pure singing voice. She is a great harmony singer.
Both Pete and Anna have, at different times in the past, been regular member of the Christchurch Folk Music Club. They feel like coming South to play is a bit like coming home. When these two old folkies get together they perform a range of material sourced from performers like Show of Hands, Mick Hanly and Mike Silver. The music is melodic and rhythmuc and the harmonies are rich and well blended. They use two guitars or bass and guitar with combinations of rhythm and picking threaded together in a way which adds to the overall richness of sound.
