James was born in the South east of England, living most of his life in the North. Now living in New Zealand, James is currently making something of a name for himself up North as a singer and songwriter in the NZ acoustic music scene.
Having become quickly disillusioned with interpreting other peoplešs songs, he started writing his own. Drawing on passionate opinions, a love of wordplay and metaphor as well as a desire to explore expound, he creates a genuine melting-pot of music for the twenty first century.
Writing on a range of subjects from love and lust to cricket and teen-angst poetry, via the evils of racism and war, the joy of catching the bus and the dangers of working too hard, he revels in finding new connections and ambiguities; he lashes the bad guys with a jagged tonguešs edge and occasionally resorts to the nonsensical and ridiculous, just for the fun of it.
He loves his acoustic guitar, and along with a pocket-sized notebook, it is his constant companion. "Songs come from anywhere" he says. "You just never know when a smile from a stranger at a bus stop is going to give you the song of your life".
