Eva Cassidy was an American singer and guitarist who became known for her interpretations of jazz, blues, folk, gospel and pop classics. She released her first album, a set of duets with Chuck Brown in 1995, and a live solo album in 1996. She died of melanoma in 1996 and was virtually unknown outside her home state at the time. Shortly after her death her compilation album Songbird was released and climbed to the top of the UK Albums Charts which led to international recognition and huge CD sales worldwide.
Jennine Bailey is regarded as one of New Zealand’s top jazz singers with her sultry smooth voice and witty repartee. Her fresh and original interpretation of jazz and pop tunes has seen her perform in musicals and stage productions as well as festivals throughout the country. In this tribute to the late Eva Cassidy she will perform classics such as Over the Rainbow and Autumn Leaves along with the more contemporary Fields of Gold and Songbird.
Jennine will be joined on stage by Richie Pickard on double bass and Tom Rainey on keys.
