The Cracks In Everything
Featuring the original songs of Nikki Berry (Guitar/vocals) with Gary Easterbrook (Bass/piano/vocals/percussion), Geoff Low (Saxophone/koauau/flute, and Jane Hobson (Vocals/percussion.)
The Cracks In Everything are a collective that widens and shrinks to fit the gig. This line up features rich vocal harmony, light percussion and soaring instrumental melodies. The songs encompass three decades of song writing and reflect a wide range of styles, with folk, reggae, funk, rock, jazz and African influences. Some songs are about hope, some satirical, some autobiographical, some protest, some environmental, almost always surprising and often memorable, leaving behind what the Germans call 'ear worms' with hook bass lines and vocals worming their way into the listeners conciousness.
About the musicians:
Nikki Berry is well known for her work empowering others to sing. Now that her youngest child has grown up she is in a position to concentrate on her own music. This music reflects the years she has spent writing vocal arrangements, working with choirs and exploring world music, but still retains some of her youthful love of the one chord groove and the simple belief that together we can change the world.
Gary Easterbrook has played a wide range of styles from rock to bluegrass and country, blues and jazz to world music. He learned piano as an eleven year old, took up guitar at fourteen, then bass guitar and back to piano (with a dabble on drums along the way). Gary teaches piano and guitar and enjoys writing choral arrangements.
Geoff Low's first love was jazz. He has been playing wind instruments since he was 7 and has been exploring the world of Taonga Puoro (Traditional Maori instruments) for the last two or three years, making and learning to master the Koauau. (bone flute), along with his long time friends, the recorder, saxophone and clarinet.
Jane Hobson has always been surrounded in music, as the child of a piano teacher, she grew up playing at the feet of the piano and listening in to the lessons her mother gave. Her first instrument was flute; she has dabbled on piano, but voice is the instrument she is most passionate about. She is currently in her second year of Jazz school, sings with A Capellago and in a variety of ensembles.
