Terry Free

terryfree_s (6K)

Singer, Storyteller, Raconteur.

Nominated Best Club Singer/Entertainer, British Alternative Folk Awards, 2005.

Terry Free was born in London and raised in the East-end where his earliest musical influences were his father, Charlie and his grandfather . His grandfather Henry had a couple of horses which he used to haul barges around the Thames canals and during hard times he was a poacher in the Essex countryside. His father worked in a foundry from childhood and supplemented his income by street singing, traditional and Music Hall songs.

Terry was involved in the English folk scene of the sixties and in 1967 formed a four- part harmony group and ventured into comedy by telling jokes between songs to over come stage fright. This combination of comedy and song proved to be so popular that he went on to develop a successful stage act utilising both of these talents to maximum effect. He is a great favourite with folk club audiences both sides of the globe.

Terry Free, a superb singer and raconteur with side splitting impact, takes you on a journey of British traditional songs, Music Hall ditties and beautifully woven yarns embroidered into a silken tapestry of chirpy cockney bollocks!

Terry Free came on the stage. A very idiosyncratic performer. Looks and sounds like Jo Cocker meets Peter Bellamy.Great trad voice and wonderfully funny.
