title

Gillespie and Gavin have performed together since the mid 80's and celebrate 20 years of musical association with a South Island tour and a new album "Live at the Bunker".

From busking in a French subway to playing in London folk clubs, Wayne Gillespie has been around and seen a few things in his life. It is his ability to draw on his experiences with a refreshing earnesty that makes him such an outstanding talent.

His career started in 1984 with the release of Wayward Son, recorded on a four-track and released independently with Waynes being nominated as New Zealand's most promising vocalist at the NZ Music Awards.

Since Nigel first appeared in Wayne's New Location band in in the late 80's the pair have performed regularly both in duo and band formats at new Zealand and Australian music venues, folk clubs and festivals up to this present time. Recent live performances together include the Thredbo Global Roots Festival 2001 and annual performances at the Devonport Folk Club venue 'The Bunker' from 1999 to 2005. These shows have proved extremely popular and they decided to record the show in 2003.

At first a visitor, now a resident, New York born Nigel Gavin has long been a featured player in New Zealand's music scene, particularly in Auckland, playing guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass - indeed, almost anything with strings - with the Nairobi Trio, the Fondue Set and the Jews Brothers. Nigel has contributed scene-stealing solos to an astonishing variety of musical groups and settings, bringing with him the dedication to the guitar that earned his place in Robert Fripp's legendary League of Crafty Guitarists.

"...dexterous playing... frisky flight... amusingly funky... mesopotamian folk... yet this diversity is unified by Gavin's restraint and sure reading of his melodic compass"
